Boye 4 in 1 Crochet Tool Review and Giveaway!
Cool Tool Review and Giveaway!
I have seen the Boye 4 in 1 Crochet Tools popping up all over the online crocheting community. They are currently only available at select Wal-Mart stores, and can’t be purchased online. They shared on the Boye Knitting and Crocheting Facebook page that they are currently not available anywhere on line. Of course they immediately peaked my interest! What a great concept to have 4 hooks in one. But, do they actually work?
I set out searching, and by the third Wal-Mart I visited, low and behold, there they were. I scooped them up and brought them home anxious to give them a go.
Let me start by saying Boye hooks are actually the brand of hooks I use and prefer. I am a fan of the tapered hooks so this was the first plus to this tool. I however, do not like any hooks with grips or added handles. They aren’t comfortable for me to use so I was a bit skeptical about the handle. With these things in mind, I grabbed my yarn and gave it a go.
Each tool has 4 different size hooks tucked away inside the handle.
The teal tool has a US D or 3.125mm, US F or 3.75 mm, US H or 5 mm, and US J or 5.75 mm.
The purple tool has the alternating sizes, US E or 3.5 mm, US G or 4.25 mm, US I or 5.25 mm and US K or 6.5 mm.
Things I heard before trying the tool:
“The handle is too hard to hold onto.”
Remember I said I don’t like big handles, but this really didn’t bother me. It was awkward at first, I’m used to holding a longer slim hook. Of course it feels different. It didn’t keep me from using it. After a bit of use I was able to find my comfortable position to hold it and work quite efficiently with it.
“The hooks don’t lock in place.”
Okay, nope they don’t, however, they are fairly firm in their placement. When I sped up or worked more aggressively it pulled back slightly on just two of the hooks. For the teal it was the H and J hooks and for the purple it was the I and K. The other two hooks on each tool, when held the way I hold my hooks, folded to the front not the back so they had no give when I was working.
I think that this could change between users depending on whether they are left handed or right handed, and how they hold their hooks. I think whether you hold your hook like a pencil or a sword will make a difference in your comfort with this tool.
I love it. It may not be a Go To hook, but it is a perfect To Go hook. Of course I prefer my regular hooks, one at a time, no bulky handles, but what a fun tool to have in my collection! It will be great to have in my bag and on hand for those times I’m on the go and can’t seem to find a hook.
