A clip of the disturbing incident was later posted to Instagram Live and widely shared, leading to a criminal investigation and an outpouring of shock among the Black community in Atlanta. On the video, a man can be seen grabbing the child by his T-shirt while questioning him about his sexuality on the porch of a home. The Atlanta Police Department said its Special Victims Unit began an investigation after being made aware of the video. They had been able to identify the property where the alleged assault took place with help from the public.
Billy Eichner to Colton Underwood after viral clip: 'Be gay' - Los Angeles Times
It could be viewed as a dramatic demonstration of the concept of karma: a group of young boaters hurling homophobic abuse towards another vessel flying gay pride flags, then needing to be rescued by their intended victims when their own boat explodes into a ball of flame. According to an account of the incident in the Washington Post, a boater named Robbie, who did not give his last name for fear of retaliation, was enjoying a day on the lake swimming, tubing and listening to music with his brother and two friends. He said their boat was displaying a variety of gay pride and rainbow flags. At about 7pm he said they noticed another boat passing by with its occupants yelling at them.

The conversation, which has recently gone viral on social media, prompted a response Wednesday from Eichner, who congratulated Underwood on embracing his full identity. This is actually extremely cringe worthy. He also paid tribute to past trailblazers who went public with their sexuality when LGBTQ people were not as accepted in Hollywood. Some are. But many are not.
